Sensefinity’s platform supports EPCIS data format. Increase your supply chain visibility with temperature, humidity and locations information in the GS1’s EPICS standard.

What is EPCIS?

EPCIS, or Electronic Product Code Information Services, is a global standard developed by GS1 for sharing detailed information about the movement and status of products in the supply chain. It enables businesses to capture and share data on "what, where, when, and why" about products and events throughout the lifecycle—from manufacturing to distribution, and ultimately to the end consumer.

Key Aspects of EPCIS:

  1. Data Capture: EPCIS collects real-time data at specific points in the supply chain, such as production, shipping, and receiving, capturing key details about the product at each stage.

  2. Data Sharing: EPCIS provides a standardized format that can be easily shared between stakeholders, enhancing visibility and enabling collaborative decision-making.

  3. Traceability and Compliance: With EPCIS, companies can meet regulatory and compliance requirements for traceability in industries like pharmaceuticals and food, helping to quickly address safety concerns or recalls.

  4. Event-Based Model: EPCIS organizes data around "events," including object events (which item is involved), aggregation events (which items are grouped together), transaction events (which transactions are involved), and transformation events (how the product changes over time).

EPCIS is widely used in industries where tracking the provenance and movement of goods is crucial, such as healthcare, food and beverage, and retail, to enhance transparency, efficiency, and trust in the supply chain.

Our customers are already using our EPICS support to track the location and conditions of food transportation such as cherries, cheese and stake.
