Indoor location challenges
All physical products are manufactured and stored in warehouses. Fundamental to logistics operations, warehouse management is key to guaranteeing that production and delivery are made on time and on budget.
All major ERP systems already have a module for warehouse management but the problem is that there is a disconnection between the digital realm and the physical assets inside the warehouse.
Locating tools, raw materials, and finished products is the main job to be done to have a smooth warehouse operation.
Why, then, isn’t more innovation in warehouse physical management? The problem is that indoor places have a set of challenges that required special attention:
GPS coverage limited or nonexistent: due to the nature of indoors most of the time, GPS is not an option. A possible solution requires indoor beacons.
Radio frequency interferences: unlike open spaces, indoor environments are prone to interference. The heavy presence of electronic devices, walls, and metal materials interferes with RF signals.
Ratio beacons/interferences: the more beacons there are the better the location accuracy, however, the more beacons you have the more saturated the RF space will be and the more errors you can have.
Multi-level buildings: unlike outdoor locations where scaling is horizontal in Indoor spaces scaling is done vertically. Adding more repeaters must be done according to this specific context.
